D’Lo in D’FunQT for only 9 shows in April in L.A.

Greetings Everyone,

I’m so PROUD to share that my solo stand-up/storytelling show D’FunQT is going up at the LGBT Center in West Hollywood and I would LOVE for you to be there. It is a small theater (about 50 seats) so I strongly urge you all to buy your tickets online as soon as you can!

Working with the LGBT Center has been wonderful and I cannot express my gratitude for the lengths that they have gone through to ensure that my work gets the support that it needs, and deserves. I started my relationship with the center through different arts programming, but my relationship with Jon Imparato, the Artistic Director, started with the work I did with my colleague and brilliant sister, Adelina Anthony. Through the LGBT Center, I’ve also been granted the opportunity to work with award-winning director Ken Sawyer for this LA premiere. He has transformed this piece into the magic that it is at present.
I feel blessed to have this opportunity and I am truly excited to be back in LA sharing a new iteration of this show with you all after it’s international tour in 2012/2013.

Come and bring your friends, we’re gonna have a good good time!

(Click Pics to take you to more info!)
Much love to you all, D’Lo

And here is a video of the beginning of the journey!!!

D’FunQT by D’Lo (9 Shows) directed by Ken SawyerTrying to chronicle the journey of D’FunQT Los Angeles LGBT Center for select dates in April. More info here. I forgot that it wasn’t a NPN contract and that TeAda Productions also produced a run of a solo show of mine (Ramble-Ations) in 2010, so my bad!

D’Lo Update

Hey everyone!! I really hope you’ve been enjoying your 2014 thus far.

I am now a co-producer on Dis/Orient/ed Comedy alongside the hilarious Jenny Yang and Atsuko Okatsuka. Scroll down below to see if we’re coming to a city near ya.

Crescent Diamond’s documentary Performing Girl which tells a little of my story has been winning some awards all over the world. Recently, we were at the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival in LA and Newport Beach Film Fest. We’re  going to Inside Out Toronto, Miz Mexico, Out Takes New Zealand, and Kashish in Mumbai!

The short LIT that I was a lead in, is soon to be making it’s rounds on the festival circuit.
AND I am also going to be a part of DYKE CENTRAL shooting this fall in the last episodes of DC’s first Season!

AND LASTLY BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST-LY

The film I am playing a lead role in BRUISING FOR BESOS has a Hatchfund Campaign that ends on May 8th and I would love if you were to donate.
This film is written by the amazing Adelina Anthony who I have had the privilege of working with since 2006. Her plays, her stories, her work in general is compelling and speaks to the lives of communities that we don’t hear from often.
If you are interested in becoming a community funder, please visit this page and donate your heart away! This film is being made in JULY come hell or high water!

Some future shows:

May 6
L.A. – Tuesday Night Cafe (FREE)

Tuesday Night Café was also recognized by the L.A. Weekly as “Best Free Downtown Performance Series” in their 2013 “Best of L.A.” edition.

May 17/18
Toronto – Tamil Studies Conference

I love going to Toronto to perform and visit my relatives in Scarborough. This performance is kinda the best of both worlds. I’m performing for my “relations”. Toronto is home to over 250,000 Tamil Sri Lankan people (feels like 400,000). Toronto has been the only place where I have been in a line-up of other Lankan queer artists (shout out to Catalyst YaliniDream, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, Gitanjali Natasha Lena).

May 30
Santa Barbara – Disoriented Comedy at UCSB

June 6
Washington DC – Disoriented Comedy

June 7
NYC – Disoriented Comedy

June 19-22
Detroit – Allied Media Conference

Unofficially official, I will be your resident host for the conference.

June 23-27
Montreal – Encuentro
Performances on the 24/26

Lastly, if you are in LA and want to propose a workshop for Models of Pride – an annual event solely for Queer Youth, you can submit your workshop proposal through this link:http://tinyurl.com/MOP22app

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your support always.
This work would be worthless if I didn’t have your love and encouragement.

Beast of Times flyerThe L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center presents the world premiere of a new play, The Beast of Times, by the award-winning Xicana lesbian performance artist Adelina Anthony. Performing with Ms. Anthony is the critically acclaimed Sri Lankan-American transgender performance artist D’Lo. The Beast of Times opens Friday, May 31, and runs through June 16.

Beast is a satirical and queer allegory that explores the contradictions and pains of coming to political consciousness in a world where environmental and ethnic diversity are fast diminishing. Employing incisive and poignant humor to expose the human love of greed and greed for love, the play also explores the devastating effects of environmental degradation on the planet’s non-human inhabitants. Highly entertaining and funny, Beast invites speculation about what these true “others” might say about us, if they could.

Even while it exposes our fallible natures, The Beast of Times still points toward our collective promise as an “enlightened” species. Artists’ bios available on: adelinaanthony.com and dlocokid.com/bio
