LA HOCICONA SERIES is the culmination of 3 years work and the comic-political vision of national touring artist and acclaimed Xicana lesbian performer, Adelina Anthony. This series highlights 3 different solo shows that consciously mix the genres of stand-up comedy, political theater, and performance art. These solo works are couched in progressive politics, queer Xicana aesthetics, and her notorious use of Spanglish and other linguistic inventions. The shows have played individually to diverse audiences across the U.S. to high critical praise and belly-aches known to give some jotas a new abdomen six-pack to brag about. All three 90 min. shows have been directed by D’Lo–a comedic force in his own right. Each show stands alone, but, ultimately, these hilarious and thought-provoking shows were created to be performed in juxtaposition and in conversation with each other.

Described as a “jolt of creative and comedic energy,” D’Lo is a Tamil Sri L.A.nkan-American, political theatre artist/writer, director, comedian, and music producer. Aside from vigorously touring the university/college circuit, D’Lo works with regional theaters across the United States and has presented Ramble-Ations: A One D’Lo Show which received the National Performance Network Creation Fund Grant in 2009 and was presented at New World Theater (Amherst, MA), Highways Performance Space (Los Angeles, CA) and Ashe Cultural Center (New Orleans, LA). As part of his residency at MACLA, D’Lo will interact with artists and community members to create, engage, and entertain while adding to the rich performance legacy forged by MACLA and some of the best performance artists working today.
